GALAThe Homeless Prevention Council Gala was held on May 8, 2009 from 6-10 PM at the Carriage House at Ocean Edge in Brewster. This event featured elegant hors d'oeurves, silent and live auctions, live music and dancing, and a cash bar. Entertainment was provided by Dinah Mellon with Greg Johnson of Longing for Ireland and by ukulele artist Tim Sweeney with Ed Banks on base. All proceeds will go toward efforts to prevent homelessness in the eight towns of the Lower Cape. Approximately 130 guests attended the event, enjoying the lovely Spring evening and enthusiastically bidding on auction items. Guests bid on a wide range of services and items from our very generous donors. We greatly appreciate the local and some not-so-local merchants, restaurant owners, artists, service providers and individuals who donated 180 auction items and services. Live auction items included get-a-ways in the Caribbean, original art, fine wines, and golf packages to name just a few. Seth Rolbein and Tom Cronin did a great job as auctioneers All proceeds will benefit the work of the Homeless Prevention Council, a private non-profit organization dedicated to helping our Lower Cape neighbors find the services they need to deal with the threat of homelessness during difficult times. Over half of the clients served by the Homeless Prevention Council are working families with young children. The Board of Directors expresses sincere and heartfelt thanks to the generous sponsors who made donations and donors who provided auction items as well as the dedicated volunteers who made this event happen. Special thanks go to Naureen and Don Jenkins in recognition of their leadership, creative talents, and hard work in making the Gala a success. We also want to acknowledge the Ocean Edge Resort for donating the use of the Carriage House. Thank you to our 2009 Homeless Prevention Gala Sponsors.
