History

The Homeless Prevention Council, formerly the Interfaith Council for the Homeless of Lower Cape Cod, was established in 1991 to combat homelessness in the eight towns of the Lower Cape. The name was changed in 2008 to more accurately describe the Council's mission to prevent homelessness.

The Homeless Prevention Council is a private, non-sectarian non-profit 501(c)(3) tax-exempt organization. We are not connected to any religious or church organization, although several congregations provide generous financial support. The Council relies primarily on private donations and Lower Cape grants for income.

The underlying premise for the establishment of the Council was that we could achieve with a central agency providing professional and experienced staff what individual towns and churches were not structured to do individually.
