Many lower cape families are just one paycheck away from homelessness, and the numbers continue to increase in these difficult economic times. Your generosity makes a significant difference in our ability to fulfill our primary mission, to prevent homelessness before it happens in the eight towns of the Lower Cape. Over the past 15 years, the Council has helped thousands of individuals and families who were either threatened with homelessness or were without shelter and living in cars, campers and public parks. Our case managers assist clients with maintaining their present housing with tenant/landlord or bank mortgage negotiations. We also help the client to access funds needed to pay overdue rent, fuel and utility bills, and we assist with budgeting to help re-establish credit. Prevention makes good sense because it is much less costly and less traumatic to families.

Your contribution will make a real difference!

$150 stabilizes rent for a month.
$100 provides holiday gifts for a child.
$70 stuffs a backpack with required school supplies.
$50 provides food certificates for a family.
$25 provides emergency gas for a medical visit, certificates for clothing and shoes, and more.

More than half our neighbors who face homelessness are working families with an unexpected medical expense, with a work slowdown resulting in pay cuts or job loss in these difficult economic times, or with "shrinking income" caused by the Cape's ever rising high cost of living. These are all situations that lead to having to make hard decisions about whether to pay the rent or mortgage, or put food on the table.
