Volunteer Recognition Lunch
On April 16th, the Homeless Prevention Council hosted a recognition lunch for approximately
50 volunteers at the Old Jailhouse Tavern in Orleans. President, Marjorie Rafael,
provided some historical perspective on the important role that volunteers have
played as the organization has grown. Director, Christine Austin, talked about the
HPC mission and 2009 priorities and Maureen Linehan, Case Manager, described the
important work she and the other case managers do on a daily basis. Three volunteers:
Noreen Jenkins, 2009 Gala Chair; Nina Opel, successful food card seller; and Phil
Mitchell, Housing With Love Committee member; all shared their experiences as volunteers.
Volunteers were able to learn more about the organization and the work that is done
with clients as well as meet and talk with other volunteers.
Recognition certificates were awarded to four students from the Sturgis School who
have volunteered to support the Adopt a Family Program for several years. The four
students recognized were: Chelsea Linehan, Erin Boettcher, Hannah Shannon, and Dawn
Sargent. Many thanks to these students and we hope that they will introduce their
friends to the fun and rewards of volunteering.
We want to thank all of our volunteers for their energy, enthusiasm, and talent.
We are proud of the work that we do and realize that we would be unable to do as
much without the ongoing support of our dedicated volunteers. We are continuing
to recruit new volunteers and to develop new ways to engage volunteers. We have
numerous volunteer positions that are generally flexible to accommodate individual
schedules. If you are interested in hearing more, call the office and ask to speak
with our Volunteer Program Manager. |
